Along with Japan, South Korea is the first team to have booked its spot for the 2022 FIFA World Cup from Asia. South Korea has been a regular team in the World cup since 1986. They finished fourth in the 2002 World cup. In February 2022, South Korea qualified after securing a top-two finish in Group A with a 2-0 win over Syria.
South Korea has been in tremendous form in the last few years. They won EAFF Championship in 2019 and were the runner-up in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. Japan is drawn into group H along with Portugal, Ghana, and Uruguay. They will be having a tough time making it to 16.
Paulo Bento has been the head coach of the South Korean National football team since 2018. He has led the team in forty-three matches and won twenty-eight with a winning percentage of 65.12. Tottenham Hotspur legend Son Heung-min has been the national team captain since 2018.
