The 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup will be held from November 21 until December 18. The first game will be played between Senegal and Netherlands. Out of the thirty-two countries, only three spots are left. Japan has already qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and is with Spain and Germany in Group E. It's going to be one of the death groups in the event.

Japan has been part of the World Cup since 1998. In the 2018 World Cup, they reached the round of 16 and lost the match. They won their last title in 2011 at the Asian Cup. Japan was among the first team to qualify from the Asian region. Japan remains the only team from the AFC other than Australia and Saudi Arabia to have reached the final of a senior FIFA men's competition.

Jaime Moriyasu has been leading the team as the manager since 2018. He has been in charge of forty-eight games and has won thirty-four matches with a win percentage of 70.83%. Maya Yoshida is the team captain and has been playing since 2010.
