McGregor Charity

Conor McGregor, the Irish fighter besides, his MMA career, is also involved in various charitable works. In October 2015, he announced that he would donate $50,000 to help the homeless problem in Ireland.

“I am donating €50,000 from these events to help boost resources of those who are fighting the homeless crisis in Ireland, as we head into the colder weather." “€25,000 will go to the hard-working Simon Community homeless charity. This €25,000 will fund the mobile health clinic for a full year so the people in need can get the treatment they need when they need it."

The former lightweight champion was honored at the 7th annual Best of Ireland Gala in New York City for his charitable works. The event drew $800,000 more donation the same day to support Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin.

 

 

He donated two tickets of UFC 229 to the homeless people of his country in September 2018. Tickets had a face value of £355 but the charity is expected to have earned more amount from the tickets by auctioning them off.

During the launch of his whiskey brand Proper 12, he promised to provide a portion from the whiskey sale to the charity. For each case of whiskey that is sold, the company will donate to the first responders in the district where the case was sold, he announced.

Conor McGregor Controversies

Conor McGregor has always been one of the most controversial MMA fighters in and out of the octagon. His trash-talking has led to various conflicts. He was involved in a brawl with the Nate brothers during his fight promotion and press conference ahead of his match against Nate.

McGregor was also recorded throwing abusive words towards his opponents ahead of the match.

Conor made an interference at Bellator during the debut match of Charlie Ward, his SBG teammate, where he pushed and humiliated the referee. He later made an apology for the inconvenience caused by him.

The Notorious was a lead man attacking the bus that carried the UFC fighters including Khabib ahead of the UFC 223. He threw a chair on the window of the but that injured two UFC fighters Michael Chiesa and Rose Namajunas. The incident happened after Khabib slapped his SBG teammate Artem Lobov. Conor was later suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission and was handed some months of community service and a fine of some amount.

Chiesa later sued Conor and for assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress, seeking financial support.

Moreover, Conor was also seen being involved in an aftermatch brawl at UFC 229 when Khabib attacked Conor's jiu-jitsu coach Dillon Danis. Both, the fighters are facing suspension till now.

Early Life

Conor McGregor was born on 14 July 1988 in Crumlin, Dublin, Ireland. His nationality is Irish. His ethnicity is unknown at this time, and his astrological sign is Cancer. During his high school years, he developed his obsession with sports.

He was born to Tony and Margaret McGregor. He has two sisters named, Erin and Aoife. 

Conor attended Gaelscoil and Gaelcholáiste at the primary and secondary level and began boxing at the age of 12 at Crumlin Boxing Club.

In his youth, he was a football player for Lourdes Celtic Football Club. In 2006, he moved with his family to Lucan in West Dublin. At Lucan, he met future UFC Fighter Tom Egan and soon they began training of mixed martial arts together.

Conor also worked as a plumber before landing into MMA. He was All-Ireland boxing champion at youth level before turning towards MMA.

Conor McGregor MMA Career

On 17 February 2007, Conor McGregor made his MMA debut, in an amateur fight against Kieran Campbell. He won the fight via TKO in the first round. On 9 March 2008, he made his professional MMA debut in the lightweight division. He defeated Gary Morris via TKO in the second round.

In 2013, Conor McGregor landed his steps into the UFC. On April 6, 2013, at UFC on Fuel TV: Mousasi vs. Latifi, he faced Marcus Brimage. He won the fight via TKO punches in the first round.

Next, he faced Max Holloway, at the event of UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Sonnen. He won the fight via unanimous decision in the third round. Conor also defeated Diego Brandão, Dustin Poirier, Dennis Siver, Chad Mendes at the featherweight division and became the UFC Featherweight after knocking out Jose Aldo just in 13 seconds of the fight on 12 December 2015.

His first loss at UFC was against the Nate Diaz. On December 12, 2015, in his welterweight debut where he submitted in the 2nd round. He avenged his loss against Nate on 20 August 2016 at UFC 202 with the majority decision win. Likewise, Conor McGregor is planning to return in July in negotiations with UFC.

Conor then fought the UFC lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez, at UFC 205 and became the UFC's first double-division champion with the TKO win in the 2nd round. He was later stripped off both title due to inactivity.

McGregor returned from the long hiatus from his MMA career at UFC 229 to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov.
