Paul was born on May 6, 1985, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His father taught Paul basketball. Paul used to play in youth leagues before he started his senior career. He used to spend his summers at a service station of his grandfather.
Paul attended West Forsyth High School in Clemmons. He played for junior teams in his freshman and sophomore years in high school.
