Ibtihaj Muhammad is an American sabre fencer by profession. She is a member of the United States fencing team. She is the first Muslim American woman to wear hijab while competing for the United States Olympics.

Ibtihaj Muhammad was born on December 4, 1985, at Maplewood, New Jersey of United States. She belongs to a Muslim community and holds an American nationality. She is the daughter of Eugene Muhammad and Denise Muhammad.
She is not the only child of her parents but has four other siblings. One of her brothers is named Qareeb Muhammad and a sister named Faizah Muhammad. Her family converted to Islam. She currently resides in New York, United States.

Muhammad did her schooling from Columbia High School. At the age of 13, she was a part of her school fencing team which was a beginning step of her huge career. Later, she enrolled at Duke University and completed her dual bachelor’s in International Relations and African and African-American studies in 2007. She was also trained under the Peter Westbrook’ Foundation where she got an opportunity to groom herself even better.
She is currently ranked in the 37th position in the United States as a fence. She has won a total of 5 medals- 1 Gold and 4 bronze in World Championship till date and is planning to achieve more in near future. She took part in the 2016 Summer Olympics as an individual sabre fencer. She was defeated by France's Cecilia Berder in the second round.
