Khabib should beat Conor McGregor to be regarded as the Lightweight Champion- coach EXCLUSIVE MMA

Despite the facts that his trainee holds the lightweight championship belt, Khabib's coach Javier Mendez admits Khabib won't be regarded as the best 155-pound fighter until he beats the former two-division champion, Conor McGregor.

Khabib Nurmagomedov won the lightweight championship defeating Al Iaquinta at UFC 223. But this was only possible after the Notorious was stripped off his belt for not defending the title for about 2 years.

The undefeated Russian champion will still be questioned about his legacy until he and McGregor face off with each other.

“I think that the asterisk will be Conor. Because he’ll have to fight Conor to really in everybody’s eyes be considered the best lightweight. Even though I consider him the best lightweight.

“But to be honest, a lot of people won’t consider him to be the best until they clash. Unless Conor moves up in weight or retires."

The American kickboxing head coach told Express Sport earlier this year.

“As long as Conor is still in the game and it was his title, people are going to say, ‘What if? What if?’ And rightly so.”

he added.

Nurmagomedov will have a better opportunity to knock down Conor and hail him as the undisputed and greatest 155-pound fighter on November 6 in Las Vegas.
