JaVale McGee is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). McGee was previously a member of the Golden State Warriors, with whom he achieved two straight NBA championships.

McGee played college basketball for the University of Nevada. After his sophomore year in university, he decided to go pro and entered the 2008 NBA draft, where the Washington Wizards picked him.

JaVale Lindy McGee was born on January 19, 1988, in Flint, Michigan, to parents Pamela McGee and George Montgomery. He attended the Detriot Country Day School and Providence Christian but later transferred to Hales Franciscan High School.

After graduating High School, McGee joined the University of Nevada. He played college basketball, and though ideally a small forward, he became the starting center for the University of Nevada. During his sophomore year, JaVale averaged 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds. He hired an agent and declared for the 2008 NBA draft.

Professional Life of JaVale McGee

In the 2008 NBA draft, JaVale McGee was drafted by the Washington Wizards the 18th overall. McGee signed a two-year, $2.4 million contract with the Wizards on July 9, 2008. McGee stayed at the Wizards till 2012.

JaVale McGee was the first Wizard to ever participate in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, in which he made an appearance in 2011. He made a second-place finish in the competition coming behind Blake Griffin. McGee scored his first career triple-double on March 15, 2011, against the Chicago Bulls, recording 11 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 blocks.

The Wizards traded Javal McGee and Ronny Turiaf to the Denver Nuggets on March 15, 2012, in exchange for Nene. Unlike his time at the Wizards, where he was the starting member and saw most of the playtime, he could only start in 5 of the 20 games for Nuggets with a reduced play time averaging 20.6.McGee re-signed with the Nuggets on a four-year, $44 million contract on July 18, 2012.

Javal McGee and teammate Chukwudiebere Maduabam were traded to the Philadelphia 76ers on February 19, 2015, in exchange for the rights to Cenk Akyol. He made six game appearances with the 76ers but was waived by the team on March 1, 2015. The Dallas Mavericks claimed the Wavier, who signed McGee on August 13, 2015.

McGee suffered from a stress fracture in his left tibia, which caused him to miss the first 13 games of the 2015-2016 season. He made his official debut for the Mavericks on November 22, 2015. The Mavericks waived McGee on July 8, 2016.

The Golden State Warriors signed Javal McGee on September 16, 2016. It was with the Warriors that McGee's career began to take off. He was able to get his championship ring as the Warriors won the 2017 NBA Championship.

The Warriors also became one of the strongest teams for the 2017-2018 season, with players like Stephen CurryKlay Thompson, and Kevin Durant. The Warriors won their second straight championship in June of 2018 after a four-game sweep in the Finals against the Cavaliers.

Javal McGee signed with the Los Angeles Lakers on July 10, 2018. Some of his teammates are LeBron James, Lonzo Ball etc.

JaVale McGee has been in a serious relationship since 2015. His girlfriend is Giselle Ramirez. McGee has two daughters named Genevieve Grey McGee and Everleigh McGee from his relationship with Ramirez.
