One of the top contenders of the Lightweight Championship, Dustin Poirier will have a good look at the UFC 229 match between UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. Poirier seems to have a direct impact on his future.
The Diamond will welcome Nate Diaz back to the octagon after nearly 2 years at UFC 230 on Nov. 3. He might get the matchup with the winner of the UFC 229 for the 155-pound Championship in he defeats Diaz. That is why Poirier will have close observe in the bout.
Poirier also talked about the fight in an Interview with The MMA Hour and said that Khabib has the chance to win.
"I’m kinda leaning toward Khabib. I just don’t know if he’s going to stop Conor or whatnot, but I’m thinking he’s going to get the victory."
McGregor and Poirier met each other at UFC 178 in the featherweight division back in September 2014. The former two-division champion knocked in out with punches in less than 2 minutes.
“I mean, he has a huge chance. He’s got the great timing, a great judge of distance. We’ll just see if the takedown defense holds up and the cardio holds up. That’s all he has to do. The openings will be there, but he just has to stand the test of the wrestling and the conditioning, the physical part that Khabib’s going to put on early in the fight.”
Poirier added.
The UFC seems to be in doubt of how will the Notorious react in the match as he has not competed in MMA for the last two years since defeating Eddie Alvarez. He played a single boxing match where he faced Floyd Mayweather.
