Victor Wanyama Early Life

Victor Wanyama was born on 25th of June 1991 in Nairobi, Kenya, as Victor Mugubi Wanyama. Regarding his nationality, Wanyama is a Kenyan and belongs to the African ethnicity.

His father, Noah Wanya was also a footballer for "A.F.C. Leopards" during the 1980s. Victor grew up with his siblings, McDonald Marga, a professional footballer, Thomas, and Sylvester also a footballer playing in the "Kenyan Premier Leagues." He has a sister Mercy, who is a basketball player in the USA.

He attended "Kamukunji high school," the school always maintains a successful football team. After leaving high school, he played for "JMJ Academy" for three years. During that time, he also joined "Kenyan Premier League clubs Nairobi City Stars" and "AFC Leopards."

Further, he moved to Sweden and joined Allsvenskan club "Helsingborg;" however, after the departure of his brother, McDonald Mariga to Seria A side Parma, he returned to Kenya.

Victor Wanyama Club Career

In 2008, Victor Wanyama signed to Beerschot on a four-year contract. He debuted in a League match at the end of the 2008-09 seasons. In the following year, for a violent tackle on Matias Suarez of Anderlecht, he was fined 100 and suspended for three-match.

Furthermore, in 2010, Scottish Premier League club, Celtic tried to sign Victor, but Beershot didn’t allow. Similarly, Russian club "CSKA Moscow" attempted to contract with, but they failed as well. For the club, Beerschot Ac he scored two goals and appeared in 51 games.

In 2011, he became the first ever Kenyan to play in the SPL by signing Celtic. There he made his Celtic debut in a 1-0 loss to St Johnstone.

He scored the first goal for Celtic in a 1-0 win over Hearts at Celtic Park. Victor’s performance during December earned him the Scottish Premier League young player of the month award. For Celtic, he played 61 matches and scored ten goals.

Then, Victor Wayama signed for Premier League with Southampton for a fee claimed to be £12.5 million and became the first Kenyan to play in the Premier League. He debuted on the 17th of August 2013, in 1-0 away win against West Bromwich Albion.

In his first season, Wanyama appeared in 24 games and scored his first goal in a 1-0 league victory over "Swansea City" at the Liberty Stadium, after replacing janes Ward-Prowse in the 69th minute. Till 2016, Wanyam made a total of 85 appearances and scored four goals for Southampton.

Currently, Victor Wanyama has signed a five-year contract for £11 million to Tottenham Hotspur, an English football club based in Tottenham, Haringey, London. His first goal for the club was against Crystal Palace. Since 2016, he has played 63 games and scored six goals for the club. He plays alongside Danny Rose, Jan Vertonghen, Son Heung-min, and Hugo Lloris
