Ronnie Perkins was born on September 29, 1999, in St. Louis, Missouri. He is among the six children born to Ronald Perkins and his wife, Keisha Perkins. At the end of the season, Perkins was named a freshman All-American by ESPN. Coming into the sophomore year, Ronnie started each of his 13 games at the defensive end and ranked second on the team with 13.5 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks. Perkins earned second-team All-Big 12 honors by the league’s coaches and media.
In the junior year, Ronnie missed the season's first five games due to a failed drug test, played in the last six contests, and started the final five. The player finished the season with 38 tackles and six sacks. He was named All-Big 12 Second Team selection by league's head coaches and an Academic All-Big 12 Second Team honoree. Ronnie registered three tackles (two solos) and 1.5 sacks in the Big 12 Championship win vs. Iowa State.
