Sardar Azmoun is a football player from Iran who currently plays as a striker for the National Team of Iran and the German professional club Byer Leverkusen. The 27-year-old footballer has played for many clubs,s that include Sepahan, Rostov, etc.

Sardar Azmoun’s Career

At 9, Azmoun began his football career at Oghab Gonbad of Gonbad-e Kavus. Moreover, he played volleyball and was called up by Iran’s national U-15. Following his early career, Sardar Azmoun played for Shamshad Gorgan and Etka Gorgan. He played for the youth team of Sepahan from 2010 to 2013.

After his brilliant performance, Azmoun caught the interest of two Iranian clubs, Persepolis and Esteghlal, and an offer for the first-team contract in Sepahan. On January 1, 2013, he was transferred to Rubin Kazan II on a free transfer. During his first season with the club, Azmoun played eight games, scoring two goals where he got one yellow card. Azmoun was later promoted to the first team of Rubin Kazan. In July 2013, he made his senior debut in UEFA Europe League as a substitute in a 1-0 victory against Jagodina.

Azmoun became interested in Premier League side Arsenal with £2 million and received offers from A.C, Milan, Juventus, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Barcelona. On February 26, 2015, Azmoun was loaned to Rostov for three-and-a-half-month. He made his debut against Kuban Krasnodar. 

Azmoun 's dynamic performance earned him a place on the Russian Premier League Team of the Week. He extended his loan contract with the team at the end of the 2014-15 season. Before ending his loan contract, he scored 12 goals in 35 appearances.

On July 22, 2016, Azmoun was transferred to Rostov with a fee of £2.07million. After his diligent style of play, several European Giants like Marseille, Liverpool, Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, and Bayer Leverkusen showed interest in him.

Later, Azmoun left the club after a year, scoring seven goals in 27 appearances. On July 14, 2017, Azmoun moved to his former club, Rubin Kazan, on a free transfer. In 2019, He moved to Russia and joined Zenit Saint Petersburg. After two seasons, The player moved to Germany and joined Bayer Leverkusen on a four-year contract.

In 2009, Sardar Azmoun debuted internationally with the Iran U-17, with whom he played six games, scoring seven goals, and was named the top scorer of the 2012 Commonwealth of Independent States Cup. He is a member of the U-17 team that won the West Asian Football Federation Championship in 2009. Azmoun then played 19 matches for U-20, scoring 19 goals from 2011 to 2014. He also represented his national team at Kerman's 2014 AFC U-19 Championship Qualification.

Along with his U-20 squad, Azmounwon AFF U-19 Youth Championship in 2012. In March 2015, Azmoun was invited into the U-23 Squad for Olympic Qualifiers and led the team into the final with four goals in 3 matches.

On May 26, 2014, Sardar Azmoun earned his first senior cap under the coach Carlos Queiroz in a friendly match against Montenegro, replacing Reza Ghoochannejhad. Azmoun scored his first senior goal in November 2014 over South Korea in a 1-0 victory. He has so far been capped 63 times, with his national team scoring 40 goals.
