Reza Ghoochannejhad is a professional football player who plays in the position of a forward for Iran national football team. As of 2017, he was a forwarder for a Dutch league club, SC Heerenveen and on the midst of 2018, after his two year's contract with Heerenveen expired, he signed a two years long deal with Cypriot First Division club APOEL on 23 July 2018 on a two-year contract. 

 

Apart from playing for various football clubs, he has played for Dutch youth teams and represented Iran in major tournaments like 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2015 AFC Asian Cup.

Reza Ghoochannejhad is of Iranian nationality with Asian ethnic background. He was born to Iranian parents: father, Jalal, and mother, Mahin Ghoochannejhad on 20 September 1987 in Mashhad, Iran.

His uncle Jabar Ghoochannejhad is a volley coach and his cousin, Agil Etemadi is also a football player who plays for Almere City.

His family moved to Holland when he was four and started to play for youth ranks of local Dutch football clubs like LAC Frisia 1883, Cambuur and SC Heerenveen.

Reza Ghoochannejhad’s Career

Reza made his club debut for the senior team of Heerenveen against AZ Alkmaar in 2006 and was transferred to Dutch team such as  Go Ahead Eagles and Emmen as a loan from Heerenveen.

He signed with the senior team of Go Ahead Eagles during 2009/10.

After joining  Cambuur in 2010, he created history by scoring the fastest goal in nine records, tying jointly with Dutch legend, Johan Cruyff for the fastest goal scored in the Dutch leagues.

During June of 2011, he signed to a Belgian league team, Sint Truiden and scored his first goal for the club against Brugge.

He, later on, joined with Standard Liege in 2012 and signed a three and half year contract with Belgian club.

In early 2014, he signed a two and a half year contract with English football club, Charlton Athletic and made his debut for the side against Wigan Athletic on February 1, 2014.

He scored his first goal against Leeds United on April 1. While he was at the club he was transferred to middle eastern clubs such as  Al Kuwait and Al Wakrah.

The Iranian striker returned back to Charlton Athletic in 2015 and is currently signed with his old team SC Heerenveen in 2016.

During January 2017, he scored a hattrick for his club against PSV Eindhoven and made history as he became the first Iranian player to score a hattrick in a European league.

Reza Ghoochannejhad recently in mid-2018 penned a two years long deal with Cypriot First Division club APOEL on 23 July 2018 on a two-year contract.

The club has reportedly paid a good amount to sign the Iranian striker and on his belated birthday, his current club even wished him from their official Twitter page.

The striker reportedly has appeared in 10 games for the Cypriot club and has netted two goals in his 10 appearances for the club. Added to this, APOEL has set Reza's transfer clause at €1.5 million (Euros). 

Reza Ghoochannejhad’s International Career

After playing for Dutch teams in U-16,17,18,19 teams, Reza made his international debut for his birth country, Iran against South Korea in the 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier on  16 October 2012  and scored his first goal against Lebanon on 6 February 2013 during 2015 AFC Asian Qualifier.

He was one of the star Iranian player to be included in the main team of Iran in the 2014 FIFA World Cup alongside Ehsan Hajsafi, Alireza Haghighi and Ashkan Dejagah were some of the major players in the team.

During the group stage match, he scored the team only world cup goal in the tournament as he scored salvaging and consolidating goal for Iran in a defeat against Bosnia and Herzegovina on 25 June 2014.

He has been named in the squad to play for Iran in 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The 5 feet 11 inches tall star striker of Heerenveen is married to Servin Bayat.

Servin is the sister of famous Iranian actress Sarah Bayat. Reza Ghoochannejhad and his wife Servin Bayat tied their knot on 30th March 2016. Reportedly the couple had been dating since 12 March 2015. The wedding took place at Imam Reza shrine. The couple has a daughter from their four years long relationship and three years strong married life who was born in late January 2018.
