Career

Bentancur began his career as a youth player at the Boca U20 squad in 2009 where he remained with the youth academy for six years.

After playing for the number of years in a youth team, Bentancur was promoted in the main team in 2015 and made his debut in a league match against Nueva Chicago replacing Pablo Perez. The game was ended in a 0-0 home tie.

Before leaving the club in 2017, Bentancur played 51 games netting only one goal. Along with his team, he was awarded 2015, 2016-017 Primera Division and 2014-015 Copa Argentina.

Bentancur alongside Guido Vadala, Franci Cristaldo, and Adrian Cubas was the part of Carlos Tevez’s deal with Juventus have the first option to sign the youngsters.

National Career

On 19th January 2017, Bentancur earned his first international cap with the U20 squad of Uruguay in a 0-0 draw against Venezuela at the U-20 South American Championship 2017. Following that, he scored 1 goal in 14 caps for the youth team.

After playing for Uruguay in their under 20 teams, Bentancur made his full international debut for Uruguay on 5th October 2017, in a world cup qualification against South America.

Bentancur along with Lucas Torreira, and Luis Suarez was added to Uruguay squad led by head coach Oscar Tabarez for 2018 FIFA World Cup at Russia.

Bentancur was included in Uruguay's opening match of the 2018 World Cup in a 1-0 win against Mohamed Salah’s Egypt. Similarly, Egypt keeper Mohamed El-Shenawy named as the man of the match award after the incredible display. However, he had to turn down the traditional gift as it was alcoholic of Budweiser sponsorship.

Bentancur's team has scheduled for their next match on 20th June 2018, against Saudi Arabia. Besides, Saudi Arabia loss their opening-match by 5-0 against Russia on 14th June. As of 2018, he has made 8 appearances for Uruguay national team and has yet to score an international goal for Uruguay.
