Nigeria 2-0 Iceland; Conditions for Argentina to Qualify for the Round of 16

Nigeria defeated Iceland by 2-0 to kindle their hope of qualifying for the round of 16. Earlier Croatia defeated Argentina to confirm their spot in the next round. All the remaining three nations still have the chance in the Group D.

Nigeria defeated Iceland, who were playing their first World Cup, by 2-0 both goals coming in the second half. Ahmed Musa netted both goals for the African side with great skills.

Iceland had the chance to reduce the difference but Gylfi Sigurdsson missed the shot from the spot kick. Iceland were awarded the penalty after Tyronne Ebuehi fouled Alfred Finnbogason inside the danger zone.

Nigeria with clear 3 points today now stand second in the Group D with 3 points in total. Croatia are the group leader with 6 points and have already been qualified for the next round. Iceland despite tied points with Argentina, are on 3rd with better goal difference.

1. To qualify, Argentina must win against Nigeria and hope that Iceland loses against Croatia.

2. If Iceland manages to defeat Croatia, then Messi and Co. must defeat Nigeria with a considerable margin that would ensure their place with goal difference.
