Nelson Valdez is a Paraguayan professional football player who plays as a striker for Cerro Porteno and the Paraguay national team. He is one of the most capped players for his national team with an estimated net worth of $3 million.

Early Life

Nelson Valdez was born on 28 November 1983, in Caaguazu, Paraguay. His parents are Antonio Haedo and Silvia Valdez. He and his family used lived in poverty in the deprived district of San Joaquín, one of the poorest parts of Paraguay.

He grew up having the dream of playing from Albirroja, a club from Paraguay. He has six siblings.

Club Career

Nelson Valdez was 15 years old when he joined the Youth Academy of Atletico Tembetary and made his club debut in the Paraguayan Division Intermedia in 2000. He played 22 games for the club scoring 11 times, he left the club years later because he was not satisfied with his salary from the club. He joined the German club Werder Bremen in December 2001 and made his debut in November 2002 in a 5–1 away win against Hannover 96 where he scored twice. He played 131 games for the club and scored 45 goals.

Valdez then switched to the Borussia Dortmund in 2006 and started the season in the playing set wearing jersey no 9. Though he was lacking to score goals his goals drought was compensated by his creativity and energy. He was out of the pitch for several months due to his ankle injury. He played for four years with the club playing 113 games and scoring 15 goals.

Valdez signed a three-year contract with the Russian club Hércules In August 2010. Valdez was the most expensive signing in the history of Hércules having been transferred for €3.5 million. He was in the club for a year appearing in 20games and scoring 3 goals. In August 2011, he signed a four-year contract with Russian Premier League side Rubin Kazan. He made his first appearance in the 2011–12 UEFA Europa League on 15 September in a 3–0 victory over Ireland's Shamrock Rovers.

In the summer of 2012, Valdez signed for Valencia on loan. He came on as a substitute against Bayern Munich in the Champions League in which he scored a header. After all his performances in the club, Valencia purchased Valdez's contract outright from Rubin Kazan in February 2013 and he signed a contract with the club until June 2015. He then switched to Primera División Paraguaya club Cerro Porteno On 4 January 2017 and still plays for the club.

International Career

Valdez rejected the chance to play for the Germany national under-21 team having been invited to trial with Germany U21 by coach Jurgen Kohler. He made his international debut in 2003 representing the Paraguayan under-20 national team at the 2003 FIFA U-20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Valdez scored his first goal for the senior Paraguay squad in a game against El Salvador on 17 August 2005. He has won 81 caps for his national side scoring 14 goals.

Valdez currently plays alongside several players like Marcos Riveros, Jorge Mendoza, Edgar Benitz etc for the National team.

Personal Life

Edger Valdez is a married man. He was married to Martynka Haedo Valdez in 2008. The couple together has two children, a son, and a daughter named Nelson Samuel and Noemi Beata Haedo Valdez. Valdez's niece is Argentine-Paraguayan model Samira Lopez.
