Mario Mandzukic is a Croatian professional football player who plays as forward for Croatia national team and Italian Serie A football club, Juventus. He has played for several football clubs such as Marsonia, NK Zagreb, Dinamo Zagreb, VfL Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.

The Croatian striker also represented Croatia in their youth teams and made his international debut in 2007. He has also been a key player in the 2018 World Cup.

Mario Mandzukic was born on 21 May 1986 in Slavonski Brod, SFR Yugoslavia. He is of Croatian nationality. His father Mato Mandzukic and mother Jelica Mandzukic later moved to Germany and started living there due to Yugoslav war.

Mario also has a younger brother named Markopic.

He was interested in playing football since his early childhood days and played at the various youth clubs of Croatian teams such as TSF Ditzingen, Marsonia, and Zeljeznicar Slavonski Brod.

Mario Mandzukic’s  Career

He started his senior playing career with the Croatian football club, Marsonia in 2005 and was later transferred to fellow Croatian club, NK Zagreb in 2005.

The Croatian striker signed with  Dinamo Zagreb for a transfer record fee of  €1.3 million in the summer of 2007.

He was the part of the successful Zagreb that went on to win the Prva HNL for several seasons and Croatian Football Cup in 2007/08 and  2008/09 season.

Mario was later transferred to VfL Wolfsburg for a transfer fee estimated to be around € 7 million in 2010 and later signed with German Bundesliga football club giant, Bayern Munich for a fee of € 13 million in 2012.

He was the part of the successful Bayern Munich team that went on to win the UEFA Champions League in 2012/13 season.

Mario signed a four-year contract with Spanish football club, Atletico Madrid for an undisclosed fee and won the Supercopa de Espana in 2014.

He is currently playing for his current club, Juventus with whom he signed a four-year contract for a transfer fee of 19 million that also includes extra  € 2 million which relates to performance.

Mario Mandzukic’s International  Career

After playing for Croatia in their U 19, U20 and U21, he made his full senior international debut for Croatia against Macedonia in a friendly on 17 November 2017.

He scored his first international goal for Croatia against England during 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on 10 September 2008.

Mario has represented Croatia in the UEFA Euro 2012 and 2016 as well as 2014 FIFA World Cup.

He along with player such as defender, Dejan Lovren, and midfielder, Marko Pjaca is added to the 23 men Croatian squad led by the captain, Luka Modric at the 2018 FIFA World Cup at Russia. Croatia also topped the group ahead of Argentina and will face Denmark in the Round of 16.
