Luke Wilshire is a retired Australian football player who plays as a right back for Australian A-League club, Sydney FC.

He has played for foreign clubs such as English clubs like Middlesbrough and Bristol City, Dutch football club, FC Twente as well as Feyenoord Rotterdam and the Russian professional football club, Dynamo Moscow, and Terek Grozny.

The Australian right-back has represented Australia at 2004 Summer Olympics,2005 FIFA Confederations Cup, 2007 and 2011 AFC Asian Cup and  FIFA World Cup in 2006 and 2010 editions.

Luke Wilshire was born on 2 October 1981 in Wollongong, Australia and was interested in playing soccer since his early childhood days.

He started his playing career at the age of 5 and joined the Australian Serbian based football club, Albion Park White  Eagles in 1992.

Luke Wilshire’s Career

After playing for the youth team of  Wollongong Wolves Football Club, Australian Institute of Sport and English professional football club, Middlesbrough Football Club.

He made his senior professional playing career with the main team of Middlesbrough and his debut match came against Southampton on 6 March 2002.

Wilshire then moved to Bristol City for an estimated fee of £220,000 in 2003 and made his debut against Notts County and scored his first goal against Bradford Park Avenue on 7 November 2003.

He made over 100 appearances and scored 17 goals for Bristol Club.

The defender moved to Holland and signed a three-year contract with Dutch football club, FC Twente in 2006 and made his debut against Heracles Almelo and scored his first goal for the club against Groningen on 12 November 2006.

The Australian then signed with the Russian Premier League club, Dynamo Moscow for an estimated transfer fee of around €6 million in 2008 and made his debut against FC Moscow on 31 August 2008.

He scored his first Russian premier league goal against Krylya Sovetov on 27 September 2008.

After making 143 appearances and scoring two goals for the club, he left the club in 2014.

He signed a one year contract with fellow Dutch club, Feyenoord on summer of 2014 and played his first match for the club against ADO Den Haag in the opening match of the season.;

Wilkshire then signed a one year contract on 18 November 2015 with the Russian club, Terek Grozny and made his debut against Lokomotiv Moscow on 6 March 2016.
After his brief stint with the club, he moved back to his former club, Dynamo Moscow on August 2016 and made his second debut for the team against Mordovia Saransk on 2 October 2016.
He is currently playing for  Australian football club, Sydney FC in 2017 and scored his first goal against Melbourne City in 2017.

Luke Wilshire’s International  Career

After playing for Australia in their U 20 and 23 teams, he made his senior debut for the Australian team against Solomon Island in 2004.

He played along midfielder, David Carney along with Australian legend, Tim Cahill at the 2010 World Cup. Before retiring in 2014, he made 80 appearances and scored 8 goals for Australia.

Luke Wilshire’s Personal Life

Currently, 36, he stands at a height of 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs around 72 kg. He was previously married to Vietnam woman, Quyeny and together they had three children. After a couple of years of their marriage, the couple got divorced.

He is currently married to his second wife, Russian woman name Christina and has two children with her. He follows Russian Orthodox Christianity. The couple is living together happily along with their children. He is a good friend of Brad Smith.
