Kjartan Finnbogason was born to Icelandic parents on 9 July 1986 on Reykjavík, Iceland and is of Icelandic nationality having a European heritage.

He mostly for the second or reserve team of Celtic and in spite of an impressive performance for the side was not taken into the main team of Celtic.
Kjartan left the club due to fewer opportunities to play for the senior team and with the management as well as the coach. While playing for the reserve team, he was loaned to the Scottish club, Queen’s Park FC and Swedish club, Atvidabergs FF.
After several trials with clubs like Bristol, Skonto FC and FK Zalgiris Vilnius , he signed with the Norwegian football club, Sandefjord in 2008 and was transfer on a six month loan deal to Scottish football club, Falkirk in August 2009 and scored his first goal for Falkirk against Dundee United on 29 August in his first game.
He signed a permanent contract deal with his former Iceland football club, KR Reykjavik for two years in 2010 and made history for the club as he becomes the highest goalscorer for Reykjavik in the UEFA Cup in 2011.
Kjartan Finnbogason is currently signed with Danish Superliga club, AC Horsens with whom the striker signed in 2014.
After playing his debut for Iceland national football team in 2011 he scored his first international goal for Iceland against China in a friendly match on 10 January 2017.
He alongside Kari Arnason, Birkir Bjarnason, and Hjortur Hermannsson has been recently called up by Iceland squad and is expected to play for Iceland in the FIFA World Cup 2018 which is being held at Russia.
