On 12th March 2020, Josh Giddey signed by the Adelaide 36ers as a part of the league's Next Stars program to develop NBA draft prospects, becoming the first Australian player. On 26 April 2021, against the New Zealand Breakers, he recorded 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. However, the gamed ended 93–77. and he becomes the youngest Australian in NBL history to record a triple-double.

In the following game, he recorded 15 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds 101–79 wins against Brisbane Bullets, becoming the first-ever Australian to record a triple-double in consecutive games. 

On 9th May 2021, he recorded a third triple-double in a 97–88 overtime victory against the Sydney Kings. On 17th May 2021, he was released from the active playing roster to prepare for the 2021 NBA Draft.
