Talking about his MMA journey, Lima began training in mixed martial arts as a teenager. Later, he relocated to the United States with his brother, settling in Atlanta, Georgia.  

Dhiego Lima Professional Life

In the year 2010, Lima made his professional MMA career debut for regional promotions across North America, including a five-fight stint with Maximum Fighting Championship. Before auditioning for The Ultimate Fighter, Lima amassed a record of 9-1-0.

The Ultimate Fighter

In December 2013, it was reported that Lima would be a cast member on The Ultimate Fighter 19, representing Team Edgar at middleweight. Over the course of the show, he defeated Adam Stroup, Tim Williams, and Roger Zapata respectively.  

Ultimate Fighting Championship

On 6th July 2014, Lima made his UFC debut against Eddie Gordon at The Ultimate Fighter: Team Edgar vs. Team Penn Finale. He lost the fight via KO in round one but was awarded both Performance of the Season bonuses for his submission finishes throughout the season.  

Lima next faced Jorge de Olivera at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Saint Preux, on 8th November 2014. He won the fight via unanimous decision.

In 2015, Lima had 2 fights against Tim Means and Li Jinglang at UFC 184 and UFC Fight Night: Edgar vs. Faber respectively. Nevertheless, he loses both the bout. On 5th July 2015, Lima was released from UFC.

The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption

In February 2017, It was announced that Lima would compete on the UFC’s reality show in the 25th season on The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption. Furthermore, he was selected 4th for Team Dillashaw. In the opening round, he faced Hayder Hassan and won by unanimous decision.

Similarly, Lima faced Gilbert Smith in the quarterfinals, winning the fight in round three. Then in semi-finals, he defeated Tom Gallicchio and was named to be the first fighter in the finals.  

Return to UFC

On 7th July 2017, Lima finally faced Jesse Taylor in the finals at The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption Finale, after his three years stints on the show. However, he lost the back-and-forth fight in round two through rear-naked choke submission.

On 14th April 2018, he was defeated by Yushin Okami at UFC on Fox 29. He faced Chad Laprise at UFC 231 on 8th December 2018. He won the fight via KO (punch) in round one. 

On April 27, 2019, he defeated Court McGee at UFC Fight Night: Jacaré vs. Hermansson.
