Derrick Henry is an American professional footballer who was born on July 17, 1994, in Yulee, Florida. He was born to Stacy Veal (his mother) and Derrick Henry Sr. (his father). His parents were young when he was born. Veal was at the age of 15 and Henry was 16 years old. His grandmother was instrumental and helped him in raising his career.

He speaks so often about his relationship with his grandmother and even has a tattoo of her name on his chest. He spoke to ESPN about his relationship where he explained that she taught him a lot and she's still teaching him. His father had his share of trouble in his life. High School Career

Derrick Henry attended Yulee High School in Yulee, Florida. He was a three-sport star in football, basketball, and track during his high school period. He started his career playing as a running back for the Yulee Hornets football team and ran for 2,465 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2009 as a freshman. He was titled as a first-team all-coast at running back after rushing for 2,788 yards and 38 touchdowns averaging 8.9 yards per attempt.

As a junior season, he rushed for 2,610 yards and 34 scores to earn first-team all-coast honors from the Florida times union. As a senior, he set the Florida High school record against Jacksonville Jackson with a 510-yard performance and averaged 9.2 yards per carrying and 327.8 yards per game.

Derrick Henry finished his senior season with a state record of 4,261 yards and 55 touchdowns. He finished his high school football career with 12,124 career rushing yards, breaking the career record of Ken Hall. He is considered a five-star recruit by ESPN.com and was listed as the No. 1 athlete in the nation in 2013.

College Career

Derrick Henry attended the University of Alabama in September 2012 after committing to the University of Georgia. He rushed for 382 yards on 36 carries with three touchdowns as a true freshman in 2013. He rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on eight carries and had a 61-yard touchdown reception during the 2014 sugar bowl and rushed for 990 yards on 172 carries with 11 touchdowns during his second year in 2014.

He rushed for SEC records 2,219 yards and 28 touchdowns on 395 carries playing in all 15 games and won the Heisman Trophy, beating out finalists Christian McCaffrey and Deshaun Watson.

He has won many other awards including the Doak Walker award, Walter camp award, and Maxwell award.

Derrick Henry Professional Career

In the 2016 NFL Draft, Henry was picked 45th in the second round by Tennessee Titans. On 9th May 2016, he signed to a four-year, 5.40 million dollars contract with $3.30 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of 2.13 million dollars.

Derrick Henry began his rookie season as a backup running back to DeMarco Murray. He was assigned Jersey no 2 throughout his training camp and preseason and donned the No.22 after Dexter McCluster was cut on 2nd September 2016.

In Jan 2018, he recorded an 8-yard pass completion, the first of his career to Taywan Taylor in the Titans' 20-17 win over the Houston Texans. On 6th December 2018, he had a 99-yard run fending off 4 tacklers against the Jaguars which tied him with Tony Dorsett for the longest NFL touchdown run.

In 2020, he won NFL Offesnive Player of the Year.
