Deron Williams was born as Deron Michael Williams on 26 June 1984. He was born to American parents Byron Williams and Denise Smith in Parkersburg, West Virginia along with his brother Kendall Jones.

The Utah Jazz selected Williams with the third overall selection in the 2005 NBA Draft. He ended his rookie season playing 80 games, averaging 10.8 points and 4.5 assists per game. He started the 2006-07 season as a point guard. Williams recorded a career-high 31 points on 17 January 2007, in a game against the Detroit Pistons.

He further recorded a career-high 21 assists in a game against the Memphis Grizzlies on 24 January 2007. He again recorded a career-high 41 points on December 8, 2007, in a game against the Dallas Mavericks. Williams won the 2008 All-Star Skills Challenge. He played for the club for 6 years

Deron Williams was traded to the New Jersey Nets on 23 February 2011. He then signed a one-year contract for $5 million net income to play for Beşiktaş of the Turkish Basketball League and the FIBA EuroChallenge. He scored 50 points against Göttingen, during a EuroChallenge first group-stage game on 22 November 2011.

As a part of the U18 national team, he competed at "FIBA Americas U-18 Championship" and won the bronze medal.
