In 2007, Cornell University hired him as their new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. After spending three seasons, Portland State University hired him as the new offensive line coach. In 2015, He got promoted as new head coach after spending some time as their interim head coach. Barnum renewed his contract in 2020.
