Brendan Schaub is an American former mixed martial artist who has competed in the UFC. He has made a shift in his career and currently is a stand-up comedian who hosts web series and airs his own podcast.

Brendan Schaub's Early Life

Brendan Peter Schaub was born on March 18, 1983, in Aurora, Colorado. He is the son of an English mother Debra and an American father Peter Schaub. He completed his high school education from Overland High School.

After completing high school, he joined D-3 Whittier College and later transferred to the University of Colorado. He started playing football during his college years.

Brendan Schaub's Career

After graduating from college, Brendan Schaub joined the Arena Football League with the Utah Blaze. He did not make any playoff and spent time on the practice squad for the NFL's Buffalo Bills.

Schaub gave up football and returned to Colorado and began training in mixed martial arts. He won a novice-division Golden Gloves title after only six months of training and later won the 2007 Colorado-New Mexico Golden Gloves Novice division heavyweight title.

Brendan Schaub competed on the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter with the contract for team Rashad. His first fight in the competition was in the fourth episode where he faced Demico Rogers. Schaub was the victor of the fight winning with a submission in the first round.

He moved onto the quarterfinals of the competition where he faced against teammate Jon Madsen who he defeated by KO in the second round. He defeated Marcus Jones in the semifinals but lost to Roy Nelson in the finals.

Schaub's next fight was against Chase Gormley at UFC Live: Vera Vs. Jones. He defeated Gormley with a 47-second TKO. His follow up the fight was with Chris Tuchscherer who was the training partner of the former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. Schaub won over Tuchscherer in the first round via KO.

Schaub's first main card debut was at UFC 121 on October 23, 2010, facing against the former UFC heavyweight title challenger, Gabriel Gonzaga. The fight went the full distance and was the first time in Schaub's career that a fight had passed the first round mark. Schaub won the fight with a unanimous decision.

For Brendan Schaub's next bout, he was faced against Mirko Cro Cop. He won the fight with a knockout in the third-round which earned him a Knockout of the Night award as well. With the win, Schaub had compiled a four-fight win streak record which was ended by Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira on August 27, 2011, at UFC 134 with a knock out in the first round. He faced a second straight loss against Ben Rothwell on April 21, 2012, at UFC 145.

Brendan Schaub and Lavar Johnson faced each other on February 23, 2013, at UFC 157. Johnson won the fight via a unanimous decision. He faced Matt Mitrione on September 21, 2013, at UFC 165. Schaub won the bout via submission, his first professional submission win in his MMA career.

In 2014, Schaub fought against the former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski at UFC 174. Arlovski went to win the round via split decision. His next match was against Travis Browne which he ended up losing with TKO in the first round. Schaub tried to move down to the light heavyweight division after the fight. However, a year later, he decided to retire from MMA.
