She enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2013–2015) and the University of South Carolina (2016–2017). Diamond DeShields is also another player who played for North Carolina University.

Allisha Gray is an active athlete from her high school time. She played for the high school team and the university teams. She played in the University of North Carolina for Coach Sylvia Hatchell from 2013 to 2015. After two years she transferred to South Carolina to play for Dawn Staley.

Allisha Gray was selected by the Dallas Wings as the fourth overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft. Gray scored a career-high 21 points in a 96-88 loss to the Connecticut Sun, on August 12, 2017. Further, she was announced to won 2017 Rookie of the Year Award by WNBA on September 19, 2019.

Talking about her overseas career, for 2018-2019 offseason, Gray signed with Elitzur Ramla of the Israeli League in June 2018.
