Yoshinori Muto was born on 15th July 1992, in Setagaya, Tokyo, Japan. Muto belongs to Asian ethnicity and holds a Japanese nationality.

Muto went to the Faculty of Economics of Keio University where he was kept playing football, for Keio's team and graduated in March 2015.

Yoshinori Muto Professional Career

Yoshinori Muto began his football career as a striker at the youth team of FC Tokyo in 2008, where he remained for two years. Following that, he played for Junior squad of Keio University.

In 2013, Muto was promoted to the main squad of FC Tokyo as a "special Designated Player", an option that allows J League clubs to field university players without a professional contract.

Later Muto signed his first professional contract with the team in 2014 and took number 14 Jersey. During his first season, he scored 13 goals in 33 appearances and became the top debut record in the Japanese first division. He was awarded March’s MVP (player of the Month) in the JLeague in April 2015.

Yoshinori Muto is currently playing for 1.FSV Mainz 05 as a forward. He signed with the team on 1st July 2015, in a deal worth £2.52 million.

Muto scored his first hat-trick in his career against FC Augsburg on 31st October and became the second Japanese footballer behind Naohiro Takahara to scored a hat-trick in the Bundesliga. The game was ended in a 3-3 tie.

Yoshinori Muto International Career

Yoshinori Muto made his international debut replacing Yusuke Minagawa, on 5th September 2014, in a friendly match against Suarez's Uruguay, where they lost by 0-2.

He scored his first goal in a 2-2 tie against Venezuela as a substitute. He played all of Japan's matches at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup as a substitute, where they defeat to U.A.E. in the quarter-finals.

In May 2018, Muto was named Japan's squad for the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia along with Keisuke Honda, and Masaaki Higashiguchi. Their 2018 FIFA World Cup first match is against Colombia on 19th June 2018.
