Giorgian de Arrascaeta netted two goals as Uruguay beat Ghana 2-0 on Friday at Al Janoub Stadium. But it wasn't enough to keep them in the FIFA World Cup after South Korea pipped them to the Group H runners-up place with a 2-1 win over Portugal. So, both Ghana and Uruguay have been eliminated from the 2022 World Cup.
Ghana's Ayew missed a penalty in the 21st minute before Giorgian hit a first-half double to put Uruguay 2-1 up. Uruguay and South Korea both ended with a zero-goal difference, but the South Korean squad netted a total of four goals in their three matches, with the Uruguayan team scoring just the two they managed in a game against Ghana.
Ghana only needed a draw to go through, but a slow first half ended up costing them. So, the Ghanaian team have failed to qualify past the group stage in their last two appearances at the World Cup. Besides, Luis Suarez was left in tears on the bench in what is likely his final World Cup game.
