Ty Jacob Leaf was born on April 30, 1997, in Tel Aviv, Israel to parents Brad Leaf and Karen Leaf. Growing up he had two brothers; Troy Leaf, Trent Leaf, and a sister Talia Leaf.
Ty Jacob Leaf attended Foothills Christian High School in El Cajon, California where he played for his high school basketball team. In the senior season of high school, he held an average of 28.4 points and 14.2 rebounds.
After completing high school, Ty Jacob Leaf enrolled at UCLA and played for the UCLA and was a teammate of Lonzo Ball. He was named to first-team All-Pac-12 and Pac-12 All-Freshman team during his college career.
The Indiana Pacers picked T.J. Leaf with their 18th overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. Though Leaf saw an average of 16.2 minutes per game in his earlier days with the team but was later saw less time due to his struggle in defense.
