Ryan James McGowan or famously known as Ryan McGowan is a professional football player who plays a primarily as a defender and occasionally as a midfielder for the Australian team and English professional football club, Bradford City AFC.

Apart from playing for several Scottish and Chinese clubs, he also has played for UAE football club, Sharjah FC. He represented Australia in their U17, U20, and U23 teams and made his full senior debut for Australia in 2012.

McGowan played at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Ryan McGowan’s Career

He started his senior playing career with Australian soccer club, Para Hills in 2006, later joined Scottish football club, Heart of Midlothian in 2008. He was transferred to fellow Scottish clubs such as Ayr United and Patrick Thistle as a part of a loan deal.

He then signed two years contract with the Chinese SuperLeague club, Shandong Luneng Taishan in early 2013 and made his debut against Dalian Aerbin on 9 March 2013. He played a crucial role in helping the Chinese team to win the Chinese FA Cup in 2014.

After a successful spell with the Chinese club, he moved back to Scotland and signed a one and half year contract with Dundee United in January 2015 and made his debut against Aberdeen on 31 January 2015.

He later moved to China and signed with Chinese football clubs such as Henan Jianye and Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng.

The Australian defender then played for UAE football club, Sharjah FC in 2017 and is currently playing for English football club, Bradford City with whom he signed in 2018.

After playing for Australia in the AFC Youth Championship in November 2007 and FIFA U20  World Cup 2009 in Eygpt, he made his senior international debut against Scotland in a friendly match in August 2012.

He played alongside, striker Tim Cahill and defender Jason Davidson for Australia led by Mile Jedinak at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

As of 2018, he has made 20 appearances and has yet to score an international goal for Australia.
