Robert Allen Ryan is an American football coach who is currently serving as the inside linebacker coach for the  Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). Earlier, he served as a defensive coordinator or assistant coach for seven different NFL teams. During his stint at England Patriots (2000-03), the franchise won both Super Bowl XXXVI and Super Bowl XXXVIII. 

Ardmore, Oklahoma native, Rob Ryan was born on 13th December 1962, under the star sign Sagittarius. His parents: Doris and Buddy Ryan separated in 1966. Then with his mother and fraternal twin, Rex moved to Toronto and again moved back to the United State to live with their father.  He enrolled at Stevenson High School. Upon graduation, he attended  Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he played defensive end opposite his brother, Rex.

In 2012, he had lap band surgery in an attempt to lose weight however, the procedure failed which nearly cause his stomach to shut down. 

Career

In 1987, Ryan became a graduate assistant a Western Kentucky. The following year, he was an assistant coach at Ohio State. Further, he had a stint with Tennessee for five seasons. 

In 1994, he finally landed at NFL joining the Arizona cardinals as defensive backs coach. The 1994 Cardinals ranked second in the NFL total defense, second in run defense, and third in pass defense.

After he was fired by the Arizona Cardinals, he joined the Hutchinson Community College in 1996 as defensive coordinator. 

In 1997, he joined Oklahoma State University. That season, he was named Coordinator of the Year by The Sporting News. In 1999, they were ranked 10th in the nation in total defense. 

In 2000, Bill Belichick hired Ryan the linebackers coach for the New England Patriots. 

In 2004, Ryan was named the defensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders. There, he served until 2008 with his defense ranking 24th with 388 points allowed.

On 14th January 2009, Ryan was hired as defensive coordinator. During his stint, his defense ranked 21st in the league, with 375 points against, as teams averaged 23.4 points per game against them. 

On 19th January 2011, he was appointed the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator. In his first season, the team was ranked 14th in yards-per-game and 16th in points-per-game. The following season, he was ranked 19th in yards-per-game and 24th in points-per-game. 

In February 2013, Ryan signed to New Orleans Saints. In 2015, he was fired by New Orleans after his poor performance.

On 10th January 2016, Ryan joined his brother's staff with the Buffalo Bills as assistant head coach under Ryan. On December 27, 2016, the Bills announced they had fired Rob Ryan along with his brother Rex.

On 30th January 2019, he joined the Washington Redskins as their side linebackers coach. 

On 22nd January 2021, Ryan joined the Baltimore Ravens as their inside linebackers coach.
