Career

Tschauner began playing football in 1994 with TSV Wendelstein. The following year, he joined the youth set-up of 1. FC Nurnberg.

In 2004, he was called to the 1. FC Nurnberg main team. For 2004-05, he was the third goalkeeper. On 22nd October 2005, he made his debut for 1. FC Nurnberg in the Bundesliga was against Arminia Bielefeld.

In 2006, Philipp joined  1860 Munich, signing a three-year contract. In the 2007-08 season, he was named primary goalkeeper before Michael Hofmann. However, he suffered a partial tear of the cruciate ligament in his left knee.

After that, he played the role of substitute goalkeeper for several months. Later, he again became the first choice for the goalkeeper in the league. In March 2008, 1860 Munich extended his contract until 2011. During his stint there, he played in 49 games. 

For the 2011-12 season, Philipp signed to FC St. Pauli where he became an instant goalkeeper. He played in all 19 league games until in the last game before the winter break—a 2–0 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt. There, he sustained an acromioclavicular injury, which made him unfit to play for several weeks.

On 1st April 2013, Philipp scored in the 90th minute of the 2–2 final against SC Paderborn 07 during the 27th round of the Bundesliga 2.

On 14th May 2015, he joined Bundesliga club Hannover 96.

On 2nd January 2019, he was sent to  FC Ingolstadt on loan until the end of the 2018–19 season.

On 30th July 2019, Philipp signed RB Leipzig on a two-year contract. His Leipzig teammates are Lukas Klostermann, Marcel Halstenberg, and Josko Gvardiol
