Umana of Costa Rica national began his senior career with AD Carmelita in 1999 and joined CS Herediano and was transferred as a loan to US Soccer club, LA Galaxy in North America’s Major League Soccer.

With US side, he was part of the team that went on to win Major League Soccer Western Conference Championship, Major League Soccer MLS Cup and Lamar Hunt Open Cup in 2005.

After his short stint with LA Galaxy, he, later on, returned to Costa Rica and moved to Brujas FC and played for various Costa Rica clubs such as AD Municipal Liberia, Comunicaciones FC, Deportivo Saprissa, Liga Deportiva Alajuelense and Club Sports Cartagines.

He played for US Soccer Team, Chivas during 2010/11 season and scored his first goal for the club against Puebla in 2010.

The Costa Rican defender also played for Guatemala club, Comunicaciones F.C in 2012.

Currently, he has signed a two-year contract with Iranian club, Pars Jonoubi thus making history in the process by becoming the first Costa Rican to play in Iran soil. He made his debut against Padideh.

He played an important part along with players like Christian Bolanos, Cristian Gamboa, and Keylor Navas were some of the key players that took the side to quarterfinal rounds of the tournament.
