Christian Bolanos is a professional football player, who plays a winger for Costa Rican National Football Team and Costa Rican club, Deportivo Saprissa. 

 

He has also played for teams such as FC Copenhagen and  Vancouver Whitecaps FC and represented Costa Rica in 2006 and 2014 editions of FIFA World Cup.

Christian Bolanos’ Early Life

Costa Rican national, Christian Bolanos was born on 17 May 1984 in Hatillo de San Jose Costa Rica. He is the eldest son of Jonathan Bolanos' children, a former Costa Rican footballer who played as a striker.

Bolanos was fond of playing football and joined youth academy of Saprissa to pursue his football career.

Christian Bolanos’ Professional Career

He began playing professionally when he joined the senior team of Deportivo Saprissa during 2001/02 season. With the club, he won CONCACAF Champions League in 2005 and was placed in the third position at the FIFA Club World Cup 2005.

He was awarded the bronze ball for being the third best player of the tournament. After his success with the Costa Rica Club, he signed a three-year contract with Danish Super Liga Club, Odense Boldklub on June 2007.

He later joined Norwegian club, IK Start on January 1, 2009. In his first start, he scored two impressive goals against Stromsgodset.

The Costa Rican Midfielder on 30 August 2010 signed a three-year contract deal with Danish Club FC Copenhagen for a reported fee of $1.25 million. He was successful with Danish Club and won Danish Cup during 2011/12 season.

With the only handful of appearances for Costa Rican Club, CS Cartagines signed to Qatari club, Al Gharafa during 2015/16 season.

He later joined his old club, Saprissa, in 2015 and signed with Canadian soccer club, Vancouver Whitecaps FC on January 2016. Christian Bolanos is currently with Saprissa whom he joined in January 2018.

Christian Bolanos’ International Career

After playing for Costa Rica in FIFA U-17 World Championship in 2001 at Trinidad and Tobago, he made his international debut against Norway in a friendly match in May 2005. He scored his first goal against Hondorous on 16 July 2005 during  CONCACAF Gold Cup.

He has played for Costa Rica in World Cup 2006 and 2014 and also several CONCACAF Gold Cup.

He was one of the major players along with Kendall Waston, Cristian Gamboa, and Johan Venegas, whose team led Costa Rica to FIFA World Cup 2018 held at Russia.

Christian Bolanos’ Personal Life

The star midfielder is married to his wife Jasmine Salas in 2006 and together they are blessed with a daughter and son. The couple is happy and enjoying their marital relationship.
