Cristian Gamboa’s Professional Career

Gamboa began his professional football career joining his home state team Municipal Liberia when he signed with the club on July 1, 2006. After playing a couple of seasons with Liberia, he was transferred to Norwegian side, Fredrikstad during 2010/11 season.

He later joined Danish Club, FC Copenhagen in 2011 and his debut for the Danish team against Standard Liege. With Copenhagen, he was able to win Danish Cup 2011/12.

While playing under Copenhagen, Cristian Gamboa was loaned to the Norwegian club, Rosenborg BK in 2012. He made his debut for the club in the Tippeligaen league game against Stabaek on 3 September 2012. After his impressive display, he was offered a permanent contract and signed a five-year contract with Rosenborg.

After his successful spell at Norwegian club, he was signed to English Premier Club, West Bromwich Albion on 5 August 2014 for an estimated transfer fee of $ 3 million.

Gamboa made his debut for the English club against  Swansea City on 26 August 2014 after a disappointing season in 2016 he joined Scottish Top league club, Celtic whom he signed with 30 August 2016 on a three contract negotiation.

The move to Scottish league proved to be beneficial for the Costa Rican player and the club as Celtic went on to win a hat-trick of championships in 2016/2017 which is Scottish Premiership, Scottish League Cup, and Scottish Cup.

Cristian Gamboa’s International Career

Cristian Gamboa represented Costa Rica in FIFA U-20 World Cup 2009 hosted by Eygpt in which the team ended up in the fourth place.

He also won the U-20 2009 CONCACAF U-20 Championship with Costa Rica.

He made his debut for the senior national team against Argentina in friendly in January 2010 and scored his first international goal against Guyana in 2014 World Cup Qualifier on 16 October 2014.

He was in the squad of Costa Rica that reached quarterfinal rounds 2014 World Cup.

Cristian Gamboa, along with Jose Guillermo Ortiz, Jose Salvatierra, and Johan Venegas, was the key member that helped Costa Rica to reach 2018 FIFA World Cup.
