Medhi Amine El Mouttaqi Benatia or famously known as Medhi Benatia is a professional Moroccan football player who plays as a center back for Morroco national team and Qatar Stars League side, Al-Duhail SC.

 

He previously played for top teams such a Juventus, AS Roma, Bayern Munich, and Udinese. He has represented Morocco in their youth as well as the French youth team and made his international debut for Morocco in 2008.

Medhi Benatia’s Early Career

Medhi BenatiaHe was born on 17 April 1987,  Courcouronnes, France to a Moroccan father and Algerian mother. He holds both French and Moroccan nationality having a Moroccan background. Further, his star sign is Aries. 

He was interested in playing football since his childhood days and played for French youth clubs such as Clairefontaine, Guingamp, and Marseille.

Medhi Benatia’s Career

After playing for the youth team of Marseille, he joined the main team and signed his first major official contract in 2005. He was later transferred to French clubs such as Tours and Lorient as the part of the loan deal.

Benatia then joined French  Ligue 2 club, Clermont on the summer of 2008 on a free transfer deal. He moved to Italy and signed with Italian Serie A club, Udinese Calcio in the summer of 2010.

Benatia signed a five-year contract with an Italian football club, AS Roma for an estimated transfer fee of  €26 million in 2014.

He made his official debut for Bayern Munich against Machester City during 2014/15 UEFA Champions League and scored his first goal against FC Augsburg on 13 December 2014.

Benatia was the part of the Munich team that went on to win the Bundesliga title in 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons.

He was transferred to Italian Serie A club, Juventus as a part of a loan deal from Bayern Munich for the summer of 2016 for an estimated reported transfer fee €3 million and made his debut against Lazio on 27 August 2016.

Benatia scored his first goal for Juventus against AC Millan on 10 March 2017 and was the part of the successful Juventus team that went on to win the Italian Serie A in 2016/17 and 2017/18 season.

In January 2019, Benatia signed to Qatar Stars League club Al-Duhail.

Medhi Benatia’s International Career

He made his full international debut for Morocco against Zambia in a friendly on 19 November 2008 and scored his first goal against Algeria on 4 June 2011 during 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Benatia represented Morroco at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012, 2013, and 2017 and is a part of 23 men Moroccan squad at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He will be accompanied by his teammates Munir Mohamedi, Hamza Mendyl, Mehdi Carcela, Amine Harit, and similar other players.
