Marcus Murphy is an American football running back who is currently in the roster of the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). He was Drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 2015 NFL Draft. He has seen very little time on the field in his professional career as an NFL player.

 

Marcus played college football at Missouri and was named to the First-team All-SEC selection in 2014. Despite his success in college football, he has not been able to show the same level of success in his professional plays.

Early Life of Marcus Murphy

Marcus Murphy was born on October 3, 1992, in DeSoto, Texas to parents William and Tonnette Murphy. He attended the DeSoto High School where he part of the football club playing for his high school team. Murphy enrolled in the University of Missouri where he played college football from 2010-2014.

In his first season of 2010, he had 22 carries for 181 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. He was unable to play in the 2011 season due to a right shoulder injury but returned in the 2012 season to end the season with 46 carries for 251 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. His season stats for the 2013 season was 92 carries for 601 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns. At the end of the 2014 season, he had 177 carries for 924 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.

Professional Life of Marcus Murphy

Marcus Murphy entered the 2015 NFL Draft where he was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the seventh round as 230th overall. During his time at the Saints, he mainly played with special teams. He was able to make three appearances in the 2016 season for the Saints and handled some return duties as well. However, he was waived by the Saints on July 26, 2017.

Murphy's waiver was claimed by the New York Jets on July 27, 2017. His stay with the team was short lived as he was waived by the Jets as well. The Jets waived him on September 3, 2017, and was signed to the practice squad the next day. On October 3, 2017, he was released by the team.

Marcus Murphy had an even short-lived stay at Indianapolis Colts who had signed him to practice squad on October 9, 2017. 14 days after his signing, he was released by the Colts on October 24, 2017.

Murphy was signed by the Buffalo Bills into their practice Squad on November 6, 2017. He was later promoted to the active roster of the Bills on December 26, 2017. He was able to make a debut with the Bills in the week 17 match against the Miami Dolphins. During the game, he recorded seven carries for 41 rushing yards and two receptions for seven yards.

Marcus Murphy continues to play for the Bills at present.
