Marcus Morris attended APEX Academy in Pennsauken, New Jersey where he played for his high school basketball team. After completing high school, Marcus Morris enrolled at the University of Kansas and played for the Kansas Jayhawks. During his collegiate career, he was named to ten-member John R. Professional Life of Marcus Morris

Marcus Morris along with his twin brother Markieff Morris entered the 2011 NBA draft. His brother Markieff was picked by the Phoenix Sun with their 13th pick whereas Marcus was selected by the Houston Rockets with their 14th overall pick.

He was assigned to the D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers but later returned to the Rockets. In the 2012-13 season, he became the opening starter due to injury on Patrick Patterson. After Patterson's return, he became the backup power forward for the team.

Morris was traded to the Phoenix Suns on February 21, 2013. He rejoined his brother in the team and became the second twins to play for the same NBA team. He signed a multi-year contract extension with the Suns on September 29, 2014. Despite a stable performance during the season, Morris was traded to the Detroit Pistons along with Reggie Bullock and Danny Granger in exchange for a 2020 second-round draft pick.

Marcus Morris was traded to the Boston Celtics on July 7, 2017, in exchange for Avery Bradley and a 2019 second-round draft pick. He currently is in the roster filled with NBA stars like Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum, and Al Harford.
