On 21st June 2016, Rybus signed with Lyon on a free transfer. He just played a season for the Lyon appearing in ultimate 19 games.
On 19th July 2017, Rybus made his way back to his native country Russia, to join Lokomotiv Moscow, signing a three-year contract for a fee $2.15 million.
Maciej Rybus has represented his national side in both junior and senior level, playing in various tournaments. In the year 2008, he made his Poland U19 national team debut.
The following season, he played for the Poland U21 national team, appearing in overall 9 games and scoring 2 goals.
In November of 2009, he made his international team debut for the Poland national team against Romania. In his second match, he scored his first international goal.

While he was at Lokomotiv, he was in the relationship with Polish model, Natasa Czubaj. At the time, his lady Czubaj used to visit frequently during his match. But their long-term relationship did not work out and the couple parted their ways.
