Luis Fernando Muriel Fruto, also known as Luis Muriel, is a professional football player who plays as a striker for Colombia National Team and for Spanish La Liga football club, Sevilla FC.

Apart from playing for different clubs, he has also represented Colombia in their youth teams and made his debut for the senior team in 2012.

After playing for the youth side of Deportivo Calli, he played for the main team in  2009 and made his debut against Envigado FC on 12 July 2009. He scored a hattrick against Once Caldas and was given the nickname as Colombian Ronaldo in the honor of the legendary Brazilain striker, Ronaldo.

After his impressive play at the Colombian club, he was then signed by Italian football club, Udinese Calcio for an estimated transfer fee of €1.5 million on 30 May 2010.

He was then transferred to clubs such as Granda CF, US Lecce, and  UC Sampdoria as a loan and made his return to Udinese in 2012. He made his debut against Fiorentina on 25 August 2012 and was awarded the best Serie A Best Young Revelation in the same year for his outstanding performances at the club.

Luis Muriel was once praised and made a comparison to Chilean forward,  Alexis Sanchez by the former captain of Udinese, Antonio Di Natale. He made 57 appearances and scored 15 goals for the team.

He then signed a four contract with Sampdoria in 2015 and is currently playing for the Spanish side, Sevilla FC. He signed on 11 July 2017 for a record club transfer fee of €20 million and made his debut for the team against Espanyol on 19 August 2017 as well as scoring the first goal against Girona on 17 September 2017.

Luis Muriel’s International  Career

After an impressive effort shown at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup, he made his international debut for the senior team against Ecuador during 2014 World Cup qualifier on 10 June 2012 and scored his first international goal against Guatemala on 6 February 2013.

Luis Muriel was not selected for the 2014 FIFA World Cup but was part of the team along with Carlos  Sanchez Moreno and star midfielder James Rodriguez that played at the 2015 Copa America.
