Kiwane Garris is an American former professional basketball player who played for various teams in the NBA and the Italian League. He was a star point guard at the University of Illinois, where he finished as the second all-time leading scorer. He also represented the US national team in the 1998 FIBA World Championship, winning the bronze medal.

Additionally, Garris is one of the top ten scorers in school history in terms of assists, steals, made free throws, and attempted free throws. In 1996 and 1997, he was named to the All-Big Ten First Team. In 19931, he was the Parade Third-Team All-American.

NBA Draft 

A late-first or early-second-round pick in the 1997 NBA draft was expected for Garris, but he was not picked. As a free agent, he signed with the Denver Nuggets and played in 28 games for them in 1997–98, scoring 2.4 points and dishing out 1.1 assists per appearance.

However, he was cut before the regular season by the Los Angeles Clippers after playing for them for a short time in their 1997 preseason. 

Later, during the 1999–2000 season, he played in three games for the Orlando Magic and averaged 1.3 points per game. The Sacramento Kings signed him for the preseason in 2002 but dropped him again before the regular season.

International Career

Back in 1998, when the NBA was locked out, Garris played for the US national team in the FIBA World Championship in Greece. He won the bronze medal with Tim Duncan, Jason Kidd, and Paul Pierce. Overseas, mostly in Italy, he played for several teams.

During his first few years playing abroad, he won the German Cup with Alba Berlin in 19994. He then went to Italy and played for nine different teams there from 2001 to 2010.

Along with Climamio Bologna, he won the Italian Supercup in 2005 and made it to the Italian League finals that same year. He also played for Reyer Venezia Mestre, Armani Jeans Milano, and Sutor Basket Montegranaro.

Kiwane Garris retired from professional basketball in 2010, after playing for various teams in the NBA and overseas. He was known for his offensive playing style as a point guard and his contributions to basketball both on and off the court.

Since his retirement, Garris has been involved in coaching and mentorship programs. He is the founder of the KGSuperstars Basketball Team, which aims to develop young talent and promote the sport at the grassroots level. His legacy continues through his passion and dedication to the game.
