On September 6, 2013, Acosta scored his first goal in a 3-1 victory against the U.S. Acosta made his debut in the 2014 FIFA World Cup against Greece replacing Oscar Duarte.
As of now, he scored two international goals in 45 caps including in 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification and 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualification.
Acosta and his teammates Michael Umana, Keylor Navas and Aaron Cruz were called up for the match against Panama.
