Jack Buck was to Earle and Kathleen Buck as a 3rd of 7 children. His father worked as a railroad accountant. From an early age, she had weaved a dream of becoming a sports announcer in the future. 

After graduation from Lakewood High School in 1942, he did not join any University for his further studies. At the age of 19, he joined military service and worked for several years. After quitting his military job, he attended Ohio State University and completed his graduation by majoring in radio speech and minor in Spanish.

During his college years, he also worked several jobs.

Career

Upon completing his graduation, he started his professional career as a broadcaster. He served to the minor league affiliates of the St. Louis Cardinals. Due to his effort in 1954, he was promoted play by play of Cardinal games on KMOX. Besides that, he also worked on several sports assignments.

Numerous awards and rewards have honored Jack Buck for his professional accomplishments. In 1987, he bagged the Ford C. Frick Award. He also wins the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award. Pro Football Hall of Fame awarded it in 1996. For his remarkable contribution, St. Louis Walk of Fame honored him.

Jack Buck Award- It is the award named after him. It was presented by the Missouri Athletic Club. The club established this award in the year 1987. 

Died At The Age Of 77

Unfortunately, this talented personality has left this beautiful world on June 18, 2002. He died in the Barnes-Jewish Hospital following a long battle with lung cancer and Parkinson's disease. The body was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in south St. Louis County.
