Fernando Gonzalez is of Chilean nationality. He was born on July 29,1980, in La Reina, Santiago, Chile. Besides him, he has two sisters in his family, older sister, Patricia Gonzalez and younger sister, Jessica Gonzalez.

He became the professional tennis player in 1999. Gonzalez won his maiden ATP title in 2000 when he emerged victorious over Massu in the US Men’s Clay Court Championships in Orlando, Florida, USA.
Gonzalez becomes the third Chilean tennis player after Rios and Massu to enter into the top 10 singles ranking in the tennis for a male in 2006. In the Australian open in 2008, he lost to the Andy Roddick in the fourth round and finished the season in number 15.
He announced from international tennis in 2012 after Miami Masters 2012 and lost his final professional match against Nicolas Mahut in the first round.
