Ex-Vikings DE Everson Griffen Charged with 4th-Degree DWI American Football

Chanhassen, MN (July 24, 2023) - Everson Griffen is a former Minnesota Vikings defensive end who found himself in legal trouble once again as he was arrested and charged with fourth-degree DWI on Saturday morning.

According to a report from the Carver County Sheriff's Office, a deputy observed Griffen driving erratically on Powers Boulevard, weaving in and out of traffic at a high speed, leading to his arrest. During the incident, Griffen underwent a field sobriety test, which he failed, resulting in his detention at Carver County Jail. He was later released on bail after spending a few hours in custody.

This is not the first time the former NFL player has faced a DWI charge; he had previously been arrested for the same offense in 2018 in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Additionally, in 2016, he faced charges of disorderly conduct and possession of a controlled substance.

Griffen has been vocal about his struggles with mental health and disclosed being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He has also candidly shared that he used alcohol as a means of self-medication. The timing of Griffen's arrest is unfortunate, as he was striving to make a comeback to the NFL after a hiatus since 2021. Despite his efforts to train and stay in shape, this recent incident could significantly impact his chances of being signed by a team.

The incident underscores the urgent need for Griffen to seek help for his mental health issues and substance abuse problems. Griffen's arrest serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers associated with alcohol consumption. As a depressant, alcohol impairs judgment and coordination, leading to risky behaviors like driving under the influence.

This case sheds light on the importance of recognizing the serious consequences that can arise from the misuse of alcohol. As Griffen's future in the NFL remains uncertain, it is essential for him to prioritize seeking professional support to address his mental health challenges and overcome his struggles with substance abuse.
