Career

Enzo Perez took his first step in the world of football as a youth member of an Argentine football club Deportivo Maipu where he played for seven years.

Perez was transferred to CD Godoy Cruz U20. After being promoted from the youth team of CD Godoy Cruz, he began playing in a senior team of Godoy Cruz in 2003.

He then grabbed the attention after he wrote his name into club history by scoring a fifth-minute goal against Belgrano in a 1-1 tie on 9th September 2006. The goal was the first ever goal scored by him in the Argentine first division.

Perez left the club after scoring 12 goals in 84 appearances in 2007. He was the member of Cruz that won 2005–06 Primera B Nacional.

Perez was transferred to an Argentine professional sports club Estudiantes on July 1, 2007, where he claimed the second position with the team in the 2008 Copa Sudamericana.  Before leaving the club, he played 119 games scoring 14 goals.

Benfica

Perez was signed by Portuguese club Benfica on a five-year contract with the transfer fee £2.16million on July 1, 2011. He was sent on loan to his former club, Estudiantes for six months after a serious knee injury sustained in the Champions League qualifiers on 9th February 2012.

Returns to Benfica

Later, Perez scored a long-range goal over Real Madrid in complete a 5-2 win on 27th July 2012 at Eusebio Cup. He was succeeded to convert into a central midfielder during the 2012-013 season, partnering with Nemanja Matic, played a vital central role in the team.

Perez later enlarged his influence after the departure of his teammate Nemanja Matic to Chelsea in January 2013 during the 2013-14 season. He became the key player of Benfica’s second consecutive Europa League Final. Following this, he was awarded Player of the Year as of July 6, 2014.

Perez was the member of the team that was awarded Primeira Liga (2013–15), Taca de Portugal and Taca da Liga (2013-014), Supertaca Candido de Oliveira (2014). For the team, he scored 9 goals in 70 appearances.

Valencia

On January 2, 2015, Perez landed in Valencia to from Benfica with the transfer fee £22.50million. He became the tenth-highest ever fee for an Argentine player. His first match came on 4th January 2015, in a 2-1 home victory against Real Madrid in La Liga. Back in 2017, he left the club after making 61 games.

Perez was signed by an Argentine professional sports club River Plate on 1st July 2017, with the transfer fee £2.25million. He has so far played 18 games for the team. He is the member of the team that won 2016-017 Copa Argentina and 2017 Super Copa Argentina.

International Career

Perez earned his senior cap with an Argentina national football team on September 30, 2009, with the manager Diego Maradona in a 2-0 victory in an international friendly against Ghana.

Perez later invited for the 2014 FIFA World Cup by Alejandro Sabella. He covered midfielder Angel Di Maria's place after he sustained an injury in both quarter-finals and semi-finals. However, his team lost the final by 1-0 in an extra time against Germany.

Perez was named in Argentina’s preliminary 35 man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2018 but unsuccessful to make the final 23. He has been capped 23 times for his national team scoring 1 goal. He scores his first international goal against Paraguay on 25th May 2011.

Along with his team, Perez won a silver medal at Superclasico de las Americas.
