In 2007, Eliaquim Mangala agreed three year deal with Standard Liege and played with the U-17 team for the 2007-08 season. He then promoted to Standard’s under -19 team in January 2008 and started playing as a central defender.
Mangala later signed his first professional contract with the Standard Liege on October 23, 2008, and his first senior match came against Germinal Beerschot as a substitute player. On January 17, 2009, he provided the assist on the opening goal scored by Milan Jovanovic in the 3rd minute against Gent.
