Bryan Oviedo is a professional footballer, who plays a left back and occasionally as a left midfielder for Costa Rica national football team and English second-tier club, Sunderland. He wears jersey number 3. Before playing for Sunderland, he has played for several famous European clubs such as FC Copenhagen and Everton. He has appeared for Costa Rica in U-20 level and represented the senior national team since 2010.

Bryan Oviedo’s Professional Career

He made his professional club career with the senior team of Saprissa. After playing a couple of matches, he moved to Danish club, FC Copenhagen in 2010 and was loaned to  FC Nordsjaelland for 2011 season.

He made his official start with the team in May 2010. Playing for FC Copenhagen, his team won the Danish Superliga in 2009/10 and Danish Cup for two consecutive years, 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons.

For his outstanding performances for the club, he was awarded Danish Cup  Player of the year during 2011/12 season.

After his success with Copenhagen, he attracted the eyes of top English Premier League side Everton FC. He was signed to the English club on 31 August 2012 and made his debut for the club against Swansea City in September 2014.

Bryan scored his first goal against Stroke City on 30 November 2013 for Everton and memorable goal against renowned English club Manchester United during early December. The goal helped Everton to record their first win over the Man United in 21 years at Old Trafford.

He returned back to action after recovering from a broken foot for Everton against Swansea City in a league match on 23 September 2014.

He is currently playing for another English club, Sunderland, with whom the defender signed three and a half year contract deal and made his debut for the club against Crystal Palace on 4 February 2017.

Bryan Oviedo’s International Career

Bryan Oviedo has played for Costa Rica in CONCACAF U17 Tournament in 2007, 2009 CONCACAF U-20 Championship and represented his home country in 2009 FIFA World Cup U-20 before being called up for the senior team.

He made his international debut for Costa Rica National Football Team against Argentina on 26 January 2010.

He along with fellow defenders such as Cristian Gamboa, Oscar Duarte, and Kendall Waston were some of the players who were instrumental in taking Costa Rica to 2018 FIFA World Cup.
