Birkir Már Sævarsson’s Career

Sævarsson began his career as a member of the Valur. He then promoted to a senior team of Valur on May 13, 2003, from Valur U-19. He was the member of the team that won 2007 Urvalsdeild. Before leaving the club, he scored 2 goals in 66 appearances.

On July 21, 2008, Sævarsson moved to Norwegian side, SK Brann. Along with his team, he reached in the final of Norwegian Cup where the team lost 1-2 to Aalesunds FK.

In May 2013, Sævarsson renewed his contract with the team for next four-year. Later, he left the club in 2014 after making 168 appearances scoring 15 goals.

Birkir Sævarsson was transferred to Hammarby on January 1, 2015. He later named as the “newcomer of the year” by the voting system. He played 168 games and scored 15 goals before ending his career in a team.

On January 1, 2018, Sævarsson was transferred to his former club, Valur on a free transfer with a three-year contract.

On June 1, 2006, Birkir Már Sævarsson made his international debut with the Iceland U-21 with whom he played 3 matches under the coach Luca Lukas Kostic.

On June 2, 2007, Sævarsson earned his first international cap in a European Qualifiers against Liechtenstein which was ended in a 1-1 draw.
