After the youth academy of Malmo based club, BK Olympic he started his professional playing career with IF Limhamn Bunkeflo.
He spent several seasons with Swedish clubs like Bunkefo FF and IFK Klagshamn. He signed with Malmo FF in 2011 and made his debut for Malmo against Syrianska FC in the Allsvenskan on October 1, 2012, and kept a clean sheet in the match.
Olsen was the first choice goalkeeper after Johan Dalin was sold by the club during 2013/14 season. After becoming the regular player for Malmo, he played a vital role for the club and won Allsvenskan in 2014. He even won the Allsvenskan goalkeeper of the year in the same season.
After his successful spell at Malmo FF, he signed a four contract deal with Greek professional football club, PAOK FC on July 1, 2015, for a transfer fee of around $800702.
He was later transferred as a loanee to Danish Superliga team FC Copenhagen for six months in 2016 and after an impressive showing at the Danish club, he signed a four-year contract on 24 May 2016 for a reported transfer fee of $ 739110.
With the club, he was the part of the team that went on to win Danish Superliga title and Danish Cup in 2015/16 and 2016/17.
Even though he holds the citizenship of Denmark and Sweden, he decided to play for his birth nation Sweden and made his international debut for Sweden national side against Ivory Coast in a friendly match on 15 January 2015.
