Dominick Cruz is a well-known American mixed martial artist best known for his work on UFC in the Bantamweight, Featherweight, and Lightweight division. Mr. Dominick Cruzwas born on March 9, 1985, in Tucson, Arizona, United States. 

 

Currently a Bantamweight fighter, Cruz also has a good record in the Featherweight, and Lightweight division and is currently in contract with the UFC since October 28, 2010, after UFC and Extreme cage fighting merged. He is currently a number one contender for UFC Bantamweight title.

Dominic Cruz was born on  March 9, 1985, in San Diego, California, the United States of America. Cruz is of Mexican descent paternally. He lived with his single mother, grandmother and brother in a trailer park in Tucson for most of his childhood.

Born and raised in San Diego, California, United, he was interested in martial arts from his school days. He practiced Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and was a freestyle wrestler in his high school days. He started professionally participating in MMA in 2005 and so far has appeared in 24 events with total 22 wins and 2 losses. 

When he was asked about how he got involved in the fight business, he said:

At the start of his career, he got involved with Rage in the Cage 67 and fought Eddie Castro. Cruz won the match held on  29-Jan-05 via split decision. Correspondingly, at Rage in the Cage 70 Dominick Cruz fought Rosco McClellan and won the match held on  11-Jun-05 via TKO (punches)  in round 2.

Again on 6th August 2005, he fought against Tom Schwager at Rage in the Cage 73 and won the match via a first-round TKO (punches). At Rage in the Cage 74 fought, he against Josh Donahue, won the match held on  10-Sep-05 via TKO (punches)  in round 2.

On 30-Sep-05, Cruz fought Nick Hedrick at Rage in the Cage 75 and won the match via KO (punches) in round 3. In the following event, at Rage in the Cage 79, he fought against Michael Barney, won the match held on  24-Feb-06 via TKO (punches)  in round 1.

He then joined the caze combat on 15-Jul-06, and fought against Dave Hisquierdo at Total Combat 15 and won the match via Decision (split) in round 3. Consequently, at Total Combat 16, he fought against Juan Miranda, won the match held on  9-Sep-06 via Submission (rear-naked choke)  in round 1.

On 4-Nov-06, he fought Shad Smith at Total Combat 18 and won the match via Decision (unanimous) in round 3.

At World Extream Cage fighting championship WEC-2, fought against the legendery Urijah Faber but lost the match held on 24-Mar-07 via Submission (guillotine choke)  in round 1.

Further in WEC 34, Cruz fought Charlie Valencia, on 1-Jun-08 and won the match in a unanimous decision victory. On 25-Jan-09, he fought against Ian McCall at WEC 38 and won the match via Unanimous Decision. After Ian, he fought Ivan Lopez at WEC 40 fought and won the match held on via Technical Decision (unanimous) on 5th-April-2009.

After that, on 9-Aug-09, he won against Joseph Benavidez at WEC 42 in a unanimous decision victory in round 3. Respectively, at WEC 47, he fought against Brian Bowles, won the match held on  6-Mar-10 via TKO (doctor stoppage)  in round 2. Respectively, on 18-Aug-10, he fought against Joseph Benavidez at WEC 50 and won the match via Decision (split) in round 5. 

Correspondingly, at WEC 53, he fought against Scott Jorgensen, won the match held on  16-Dec-10 via Decision (unanimous)  in round 5.

After UFC and WEC merged, he fought his former opponent Urijah Faber at UFC 132 and won the match via Decision (unanimous).

He appeared in a UFC main event on UFC Live: Cruz vs. Johnson and fought Demetrious Johnson, and won the match held on  1-Oct-11 via Decision (unanimous) in round 5. 

Later in his next match, on 27-Sep-14, he fought against Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 178 and won the match via KO (punches) in round 1. In the following event, at UFC Fight Night: Dillashaw vs. Cruz, he fought against T.J. Dillashaw, won the match held on  17-Jan-16 via Decision (split)  in round 5. 

On 4-Jun-16, Cruz fought his old opponent Urijah Faber at UFC 199 and won the match via Decision (unanimous). Consequently, at UFC 207, he fought Cody Garbrandt as he was the number-one contender for Bantamweight strap but Cruz lost the match held on 30-Dec-16 via unanimous decision and had to give up on his Bantamweight championship to Cody.
